Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers
This campaign calls on WI members to work together to increase public confidence and training in the delivery of CPR and to work with local organisations to help improve access to defibrillators in their communities.
WI members have been undertaking CPR training and federations and WIs have been organising CPR awareness raising sessions. Some WIs have also been getting involved in fundraising for more defibrillators in their local community.
Defynnog and Sennybridge WI, Powys Brecknock held a Bystanders can be Lifesavers meeting in Mach 2026. WI member Cheryl Williams led the way with learning how to deliver CPR and use a defibrillator. Members were also taught how to put a patient into the recovery position and CPR tag teams.
St Florence WI, Pembrokeshire was successful in fundraising to purchase a community defibrillator. In December 2025, the defibrillator was installed outside the Village Hall where the WI holds its monthly meetings.
NFWI-Wales is working with Save a Life Cymru who has created a CPR video for the WI to support members and the wider public to learn CPR skills. Watch and share the video widely:
