Round up of the 2025 Royal Welsh Show

EnglishCymraeg

We had a successful week at the Royal Welsh Show. Our stand was hosted by Gwynedd Caernarfon Federation of WIs and was based on the theme Health and Wellbeing. The eye-catching exhibit promoted the many ways in which WI membership supports health and wellbeing.

It showcased members’ participation in various sports activities and included information about wild swimming, walking, cycling, climbing, paddleboarding, and wildlife in Snowdonia. The butterfly counting competition drew young families to the stand. The daily demonstrations, including needle felting, sugar craft, macrame dolls and chair massage, also generated great interest.

Highlights of the week included:

  • The presence of NFWI Chair Jeryl Stone at the Show on Monday
  • Raising our concern about the pollution of our rivers on the Welsh language current affairs programme Pawb a’i Farn from the Showground
  • An interview with Shân Cothi on BBC Radio Cymru about the WI
  • Visits from Liz Saville Roberts MP, Hannah Blythyn MS and Carolyn Thomas MS
  • Invites to a session with the House of Commons Welsh Affairs Select Committee, who were being interviewed by Adrian Masters, ITV Wales, a reception with the NFU Cymru and the Farming Community Network and Macmillan Cancer Support
  • The spectacular entries in our Rose Bowl and Brecon Cup competitions, on theme Shades of One Colour. The entries were on display throughout the week, showcasing members’ produce, handcraft and floral art skills. Well done to all federations.
