No More Violence: NFWI-Wales holds events at Senedd

On 20 November 2023, NFWI-Wales held events at the Senedd to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and International White Ribbon Day, which both take place on 25 November, the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. A cross-party stakeholder event during the afternoon discussed the need to mobilise all members of society to become activists in preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls.

Co-chaired by Jill Rundle, NFWI-Wales Chair and Joyce Watson MS, speakers included Jane Hutt MS, Minister for Social Justice; Johanna Robinson, National Adviser for Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence; and Deb Critchley, Head of Project Development - Change That Lasts, Welsh Women’s Aid.This was followed by a candlelight vigil at dusk on the steps of the Senedd where survivors shared their experiences and short statements were made by Jane Hutt MS, Minister for Social Justice; Derek Walker, Future Generations Commissioner and White Ribbon Ambassador; Matt Brown from the anti-violence movement She is Not your Rehab; and cross-party representatives - Luke Fletcher MS (Plaid Cymru), Jack Sargeant MS (Welsh Labour), Dr Altaf Hussain MS (Welsh Conservatives) and Councillor Bill Powell (Welsh Liberal Democrats).
The event closed with an empowering performance by Choirs for Good Cardiff.
