Round-up of WI presence at the 2022 National Eisteddfod

The WI stand at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron shone a spotlight on the environment and climate change. Hosted by Ceredigion Federation of WIs, the stand was based on the theme ‘Turning the Tide’ with a focus on rivers and deforestation. Created by a local artist, educational panels relating to the WI’s End Plastic Soup campaign and mandates on deforestation were on display as well as a climate change scarf. Other current WI campaigns including the rural bus services, ovarian cancer and cervical screening campaigns were also promoted.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Keep Wales Tidy

In partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, on 3 August a celebratory event took place on the WI stand to mark the 50th anniversary of Keep Wales Tidy. A resolution passed by WI members in 1954 called for a campaign to ‘preserve the countryside against desecration by litter,’ and subsequently led to the formation of the Keep Britain Tidy group and later Keep Wales Tidy in 1972.

Winners of the WI trophies

To encourage higher standards of exhibits at the Eisteddfod, NFWI-Wales sponsors a competition for the best and runner-up stand from the third sector. It also sponsors a competition for the best decorated local community welcoming the Eisteddfod to the area.

Congratulations to the 2022 winners:
