Summer fundraising: treks and climbs for the WI

We’re so excited to have launched the NFWI’s first fundraising programme, all to raise money to engage, empower, and connect more women through our movement.

Our CEO, Melissa Green, is busy training for the first of our two new events: the Three Peaks Challenge (note: places have now been snapped up but read on for other ways you can get involved and fundraise for the NFWI).

We also caught up with NFWI-Wales team members Rhian and Kelly, who are training for Three Peaks too.

Staff members of the Women's Institute fundraise by walking the three peaks

Well done for signing up for our first event fundraising challenge for the Women's Institute! Why did you both decide to take part?

Rhian: “For me, it’s a personal challenge, and I wanted to demonstrate to women that age is no barrier to taking on things like this, especially if you’re a WI member and want to support us. Yes, it will probably hurt, but you have to keep active, and have a go!”

Kelly: “I have played football since I was young all-over South Wales and in London, but an injury last year meant that I needed to find other ways to keep me happy, healthy and personally challenged since the injury meant an early retirement. When this came up, as a chance to raise money too for the organisation I love, I couldn’t resist to be honest.”

What are you both most looking forward to in the Three Peaks Challenge?

Rhian: “The end! As well as walking with colleagues and hopefully some WI members. I’ve always had great conversations with people on walks, you learn so much about them.  It’s also an area I’ve never been to, so looking forward to the walking and seeing the views. A bag of chips at the end would be very welcome too!”

Kelly: “I’m also really looking forward to taking part with colleagues - and pushing each other on over the 25 miles!”

Good luck to you both!

Sign up for our upcoming event: climbing Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon at Night on 1-2 August 2026

Our Three Peaks Challenge event places have no all gone – you were very quick! But you can sign up for our other fantastic upcoming event, climbing Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon at Night, on 1-2 August 2026.

Scale Wales’ highest mountain by night, and watch the sun rise across the stunning mountain range from its summit. Snowdonia/Eryri National Park is a Dark Sky Reserve, promising incredible views of the stars on a clear night.

The NFWI needs to raise funds at a national level to ensure we can continue to support all our members, extend our reach, and continue to make a huge social impact with our campaigns. We do not receive government funding as an organisation.

Thank you so much, and good luck, if you enter!
