As part of our 2025 Black History Month work, join us for a fascinating evening listening to a panel of black dance experts, each offering an insight into the rich, multifaceted contributions of black artists to the UK's dance landscape. Hearing from Dr Sandie Bourne, Dr ‘Funmi Adewole Elliot, and Mercy Nabirye, we will explore the historical under-representation of black dancers in the British dance industry and the contemporary challenges black dancers face. Reflecting on their decades of experience in the field, our panellists will discuss the intersection of black and African dance, storytelling, cultural knowledge, and power, and the initiatives they are part of, aiming to create more inclusive spaces to support the next generation of black dancers, choreographers, and performers. The panel will be talking to Melissa Green, NFWI CEO, who will also be taking questions from the audience.
The theme for BHM UK this year is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress that define the Black community across the globe. This year, the theme highlights the profound contributions made by Black people, be they leaders, activists, or pioneers who have shaped history, while also looking towards a future of continued empowerment, unity, and growth.
