When was your WI formed? In October 2016.
How many members does your WI have? 55 in total (52 full, 3 dual).
What is most unique about your WI? Our variety of ages across our members and everyone’s passion to try something out of the ordinary - we did chair burlesque in 2017!
What are the three best things about your WI. 1. Variety – in ages of members, speakers and activities. 2. Friendship – friendships have formed with members whose paths would not have crossed. 3. Passion – every member gets behind everything we do – be it fundraising, campaigning or going with the flow if a speaker lets us down!
If you had to describe the members of your WI in one word, it would be: Empowering!
At our meetings, we… share many laughs, many cups of tea and learn a huge variety of things from chocolate making and pottery painting to the history of our local Abbey and the story of empowering women (The Yorkshire Rows!). Every member is there because they want to be. There is a huge feeling of support from every member – it’s just like a sisterhood!
Selby Swans WI is based in Selby and is part of the North Yorkshire East federation.
