Pears in Cider

This recipe is a change to the usual Pears in Red Wine dish. Apples and pears go well together.

Serves: 12 but could easily be reduced


  • 12 large Pears
  • 900g Sugar
  • Sweet Cider
  • Cinnamon stick to taste


  1. Peel, core and half pears leaving part of the stem on each quarter
  2. Place in saucepan with sugar, a cinnamon stick and sufficient sweet cider to cover
  3. Stew gently until quite tender
  4. Best served chilled


Leftover pears will keep for a day or 2 maximum if covered and kept in the fridge
