Centenary Reception

NFWI-Wales held a Reception at the Pierhead, Cardiff Bay on 17 June which brought together stakeholders and decision-makers to celebrate the centenary of the WI.  The event was hosted by Dame Rosemary Butler AM, Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales.

NFWI-Wales Chair Ann Jones reflected on the WI and its achievements and spoke of members' dedication and commitment to the WI and their communities.  NFWI Chair Janice Langley shared highlights from the centenary celebrations including the baton which had travelled across the 69 federations. 

Dame Rosemary Butler AM told guests that women's organisations are key to the sustainable advancement of women in all aspects of their lives and that the WI has provided vital support to women all over the UK through its campaigns. Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty also recognised the role of the WI over the past 100 years in supporting and empowering women to make a real difference in their communities and she thanked members for "helping to shape the Wales we see today and the Wales we want to see in the future".
