End Plastic Soup drop-in event at the National Assembly for Wales

On 2 April 2019, NFWI-Wales held a drop-in event at the Assembly to raise awareness about the End Plastic Soup campaign.

The event, sponsored by Mike Hedges AM, gave Assembly Members an opportunity to learn more about the issue of microplastic fibres.  At the event, we shared the findings of the WI’s In a Spin report and the key asks of the campaign.

The event was well-attended by Assembly Members from across the political spectrum as well as other interested organisations including Friends of the Earth Cymru, Wales Environment Link, WRAP Cymru and the Water Research Institute at Cardiff University.

Assembly Members and the other stakeholders had photos taken with the End Plastic Soup promotional board.  Other props including items of clothing with tags highlighting statistics from Plymouth University research into the release of microplastic fibres.

The End Plastic Soup campaign is currently calling on members to challenge their favourite clothing brand to take action on microplastic fibres by completing NFWI’s retailer postcard and returning it to the NFWI.  Postcards are available from the Public Affairs Department or can be downloaded online at My WI:-
