Skewen WI donates over 100 sets of scrubs to physiotherapists at all three hospitals in the
Swansea Bay University Health Board

A fundraising campaign spearheaded by WI member Diane Burns from Skewen WI, Glamorgan Federation has raised £2,293.65 and enabled Skewen WI to purchase 135 sets of scrubs for physiotherapists in Neath, Singleton and Morriston hospitals.

A group of physiotherapists in green scrubs

Diane proposed this fundraising idea to members of Skewen WI after hearing from her daughter, who is Head of Physiotherapy at Neath Hospital, about a shortage of scrubs for physiotherapists and the concerns of physiotherapists in treating patients with COVID-19 without the necessary protection. COVID-19 is a respiratory condition with physiotherapists having a key part in supporting patients.

A text message was sent to Skewen WI members about the fundraising campaign with the initial aim of raising £1,870 to purchase 64 sets of scrubs for physiotherapists at Neath Hospital. The campaign however snowballed and through the generous donations received from Skewen WI members, their friends and families, a total of £2,293.65 has been raised to date. This has enabled Skewen WI to also provide scrubs to the other hospitals within Swansea Bay University Health Board. Twenty-five sets of scrubs have been given to physiotherapists in the critical care unit and 28 sets to those in the clinical team at Morriston Hospital.  In addition, 18 sets of scrubs have been provided to Singleton Hospital.

The physiotherapists have been truly overwhelmed by the support of Skewen WI. This campaign is a wonderful example of WI members coming together during a difficult and testing time to support the wider community.
