Spiced Cranberry Vodka
Ingredients
- Vodka, 500ml - 1 litre
- 500g Cranberries
- 1 Orange, rind only, no pith
- 1cm Ginger, fresh root, tied in a piece of muslin
- Stick of Cinnamon bark, tied in a piece of muslin
Method
It is best to choose your gift bottle first, as this will determine how much vodka to use
Into a dark coloured glass or ceramic jar place the cranberries, strips of orange rind with the spices in the muslin, ie cinnamon & ginger
Pour in the vodka and then "muddle" twice a day for 3 -5 days, keeping the container in a dark cool place. "Muddling" is the gently mashing and mixing of the cranberries into the spicy liquid
After 2 days, taste the liquid to check it is to your taste.
If necessary, a little (1 tbsp or more) sugar can be added or the fruit and spice taken out at this stage. For a stronger blend continue for 5 - 6 days maximum. I "muddled" for 3 days before removing the fruit mix.
The cranberries can be used to top a festive fruit salad, or special breakfast muesli/porridge or to make into another gift - chocolate cranberry liqueur truffles.
