Beef Goulash

A warm and flavoursome dish full of body building protein just right for cooler days

Serves: 6


  • 2 Onions
  • 700g Beef, lean stewing steak
  • 50g Butter
  • 40g Flour
  • 600ml Beef Stock
  • 2 Tomatoes, peeled
  • Bouquet Garni
  • 1 heaped tsp Paprika
  • Seasoning
  • 150ml Red Wine
  • Lemon Juice


  1. Set oven Gas 4 150C
  2. Slice the onions and cut the meat into cubes
  3. Melt the butter and fry the onion and meat then transfer to an ovenproof casserole
  4. Add the flour to the saucepan, stir until brown and bubbling add the stock gradually, then the tomatoes, bouquet garni, paprika and seasoning
  5. Bring to the boil then pour over the meat and onion
  6. Place in  the oven, cover and cook for 1 hour then stir in the wine and a good squeeze of lemon juice
  7. Cook for a further hour when the meat should then be tender
  8. Serve immediately with a good crisp salad or creamy mashed potato and green vegetables
