Centenary projects

As the WI celebrates the landmark achievement of 100 years of inspiring women, there are a range of different ways that members can get involved and celebrate throughout 2015.

WI Centenary Fruit Cake competition
The NFWI Education Committee gave members the opportunity to share their fruit cake recipes nationally and to win the chance to have their recipe produced and served at the WI Centenary Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in 2015.

'Singing for Joy' centenary choir competition
Singing for Joy is a national singing competition for all WI members that has been taking place over four years.  The competition celebrates 100 years of singing in the WI and members from across England, Wales and the Islands have been competing for the chance to sing live at the NFWI Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in June 2015.

The competition final was held at Birmingham Town Hall on 14 March 2015, with the Bleadon Belles (Avon Federation) crowned 'WI Choir of the Century'. The Bleadon Belles were presented with the Singing for Joy trophy by NFWI Chair, Janice Langley and will perform at the NFWI Annual Meeting in June.

Celebrations in Wales
There is a whole range of events organised for members in Wales - and those visiting! - so please take a look at the dedicated page here to find out more and take part.

Tomorrow's Heirlooms
Craft has always played a key part of many members' WI experience, and the Tomorrow's Heirlooms competition builds on this heritage by asking members to create a new treasure for the future.  WI members have been encouraged to let their imaginations run riot and create pieces that show contemporary design using the vast array of techniques and materials that are available today.

The WI Centennial Fair
To mark 100 years of the WI, the first ever WI Fair – the WI Centennial Fair – will be held on 3-6 September 2015 at the Harrogate International Centre. The fair offers four fantastic days of craft, creativity, shopping, education and fun for everyone – members and non-members alike.

WI Federation Centenary Link
The WI Federation Centenary Link has been one of the great successes of the centenary with hundreds of members getting involved to welcome the Baton to their local area.  Having started its journey on 1 January 2014 in Anglesey, the home of the very first WI meeting in the UK, it will finish its journey in the Royal Albert Hall on 4 June 2015 where the centenary Annual Meeting will be held..
