Croeso i Ffederasiwn Ceredigion
Welcome to Ceredigion Federation
Ceredigion with Cardigan Bay framing the west coast and gentle hills and dramatic mountains in the east - is a county of contrast which reflects its WI members and our activities.
There are 43 WI branches with nearly 800 members, each branch with a varied monthly programme and friendly, active atmosphere, from Cenarth WI on the banks of the River Teifi in the south to Eglwysfach WI in the north near the Dovey Estuary, Custard Queens WI in Lampeter in the east where our first WI started in 1916 with Madge Watt, founder of the WI in the UK, as the first guest speaker and Seaside Sisters WI, our newest WI in New Quay on the coast.
Ceredigion WI Federation organizes a full programme of events all year round to attract members with their favourites or reflecting the latest trends, such as willow weaving.
Challenges and new skills are part of the agenda – arts and crafts, music – with our popular choir - and sports, such as kurling, walking netball and darts as well as talks, such as the recent one on the Suffragettes and discussions on the environment, health and social issues which all play a part. These often reflect national campaigns, such as the White Ribbon Campaign, ‘plastic soup’ or tree recording. ACWW has a role in our activities with an annual lunch and walks to increase awareness of ‘women all over the world’ less fortunate than ourselves. Craft, cookery and flower arranging are as popular as ever with competitions and various classes held regularly.
With something for everyone, the WI gives many opportunities and experiences in the community. Sharing these with others gives much pleasure - as does chatting over a cup of tea in the village hall.
If you are not yet a member, there is no better time to join than now. We have a lot of fun, make lots of friends, and together we can make a lot of difference.
A warm welcome to the WI in Ceredigion.
