Headland Hotel & Spa

An Emjay coach with 43 members and 4 husbands set of on Sunday 23 April destination Torquay. Great hotel with good rooms and facilities. Breakfast menu had everything including 3 fish choices and the evening menu was 6 courses. So nobody lost weight! Monday we travelled to Buckfast Abbey with it's glorious stained glass windows and had the afternoon stop at Totnes sampling the cream teas. Tuesday was a trip to Dartmouth on a Steam train from Paignton, followed by cruise around the harbour. Wednesday we remained in Torquay with a visit to Torre Abbey & Gardens a little known attraction in the middle of Torquay. It had recently been refurbished to a very high standard with the history of the Abbey including interactive displays - time then for retail shopping in the shops. A special surprise awaited Eric Ashby, who was celebrating his 80th birthday. A birthday cake, tea and a chorus of Happy Birthday. In the evening many of us went to the Theatre to watch a revue with signing, dancing and comics.Thursday we travelled to Coleton Fishacre a N.T. property that had been built by the Doyle Carte family in the 1920's. It was at the end of a single line road but was worth it. The house and the 20 acres of gardens looking right down to the sea are wonderful. After lunch we visited Brixham, the fishing port with the boats all in the harbour. A chance for some to have a local ice cream. Another celebration today, this time it was Jane and Andrew Jefferson celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Another cake was produced, and cut up on the coach! this time accompanied by a glass of wine.On Friday we began our journey home, stopping at Evesham garden center - today was the first time the rain had interfered with our holiday. A great time with entertainment in the hotel every evening, cards schools, rummikub and not forgetting the good company.
