Welcome to the Herefordshire Federation
Herefordshire is a beautiful rural county situated in the centre of the country. It is the home of Hereford cattle and it is also a large producer of cider. We take pride in the fact that there are no motorways in Herefordshire; life goes at a much slower pace. The borders are Powys, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. It is made up of Market Towns and many small villages, some of which make up the Black and White Trail.
We have a thriving WI Federation in Herefordshire with 62 WI's and around 1550 members. Within the WI there are various committees who arrange various activities to educate and entertain us. They also give us the opportunity to socialise with members of WI's other than our own.
The Federation committees arrange trips to Denman College near Abingdon where you can learn new skills such as stained glass, cookery, hand bells or calligraphy, to name but a few. Many of our WI's also give bursaries to pay for these visits.
Recently they have also arranged a holiday in Italy, a Christmas shopping trip to Bath, a visit to London and a chance to see the Russian Ballet in Cardiff.
In 2015 the National Federation of Women's Institutes has celebrated its 100 Year Centenary. This enabled our members to attend a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and the Annual General Meeting in the Albert Hall where Queen Elizabeth was in attendance together with the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Wessex.
Herefordshire Federation also held its own garden party in the fabulous gardens of Lower Hope in Herefordshire where we had champagne and cake to celebrate the Centenary of the WI. We also had a brass band and Morris Dancers.
Every three years Herefordshire Federation organises the marquee at the Royal Three Counties Show in Malvern to display what the WI represents. The date is 17 – 19 June 2016. We also run refreshment areas in the showground with home-made produce.
If you are new in the area and would like to make new friends then come and see what we do. You can attend three of our meetings before deciding if you would like to join.
