Women's Fight for the Vote

A day school with Dr Claire Nicholson on Wednesday 23 October 2019

We are thrilled to welcome back Dr Claire Nicholson, who will share with us the incredible lengths to which women went to get the right to vote!  This will take place on Wednesday 23 October 2019, 10.00am – 4.00pm at the WI Office in Girton, to celebrate the centenary of this event in 1918.

Claire, who has taught us so much already about the Bloomsbury Group and their associates in such an informative and entertaining way, has agreed to come and tell us about the background of the campaign (which stretches right back to the 1860’s!) and will then concentrate upon the period from 1903-1918, focusing on the difference between Suffragists and Suffragettes, and the actresses, writers and journalists of the time who helped promote this important cause.

This promises to be a fantastic day and we hope that you will come and be part of this adventure back in time for such a well fought cause, especially as some of our founding members played a significant role in this momentous era!

Please bring a packed lunch and we will provide coffee and tea during the day.
