Hilary Haworth

Hilary Haworth

Chair of the Membership Committee

Hilary was elected to the NFWI Board in 2017. She is Chair of the Membership Committee and serves as a Director on the WI Enterprises Board.

She has been a member since joining Ashley Green WI in 2006. She has served on the committee and as Group Convenor for Cestreham and is a member of the Drama Group.

Hilary was co-opted onto the Science and Society Sub-Committee for Buckinghamshire Federation in September 2008 and elected Chair of the committee in May 2011.  While on this committee she has contributed particularly to Buckinghamshire Federation’s annual Investigation and Discovery Days, and to the Great Food Debate and its follow up event Feeding 9Billion, examining food production and climate change. She has helped to plan, budget and organise several educational trips as well as literary lunches and International evenings. Of the federation’s History Days, perhaps the most memorable has been By George – that’s Style! where minuets were danced, costumes worn and snuff taken!

Hilary was appointed to the Buckinghamshire Board of Trustees in April 2014 and now serves as Treasurer of the Federation. She has been a regular contributor to Federation Resolution Selection Meetings and proposed the 2017 Plastic Soup Resolution. She has contributed to local campaigning on Federation and National Mandates particularly those related to farming and the environment.

After graduating with a degree in English from Oxford, Hilary worked in retail and restaurant management in the South of England, managing a large ‘Training branch’ for a retail group. She then spent ten years in business consultancy, specialising in designing and delivering Education and Training programmes for large ERP systems in a range of different industries.

Hilary has lived abroad in Switzerland and France, where her two younger children were born; while here she also gained her Master’s in Education from the Open University and taught English as a second language. She is now self-employed running a busy and successful music teaching practice.

Her interests include long walks - with or without her dog - climbing and skiing, as well as cinema, classical concerts and cryptic crosswords. She is organist and DCC Treasurer at her local church.
