Addressing violence against women discussed at International Women's Day events
In March, NFWI-Wales held International Women’s Day events in Llandudno and Cardiff on the 2012 Wales theme ‘Women and men united to end violence and domestic abuse against women’.
In Llandudno, delegates heard from Ann Jones AM, Pauline Lowe from Abeconwy Domestic Abuse Service, Tracey Jones, Rhyl Football Club, Detective Chief Inspector Sian Beck from North Wales Police and Branwen Niclas from Christian Aid. In Cardiff, Joyce Waston AM, Carmel Napier Chief Constable of Gwent Police and Samsunear Ali from BAWSO addressed delegates.
At both events, delegates also took part in a roundtable discussion ‘how can we engage men and address the unequal power relations and social norms that condone violence?’ and in the MDG role play activity. The events were funded by a grant from the Welsh Government.
