Spicy lamb burgers

Here is an alternative to beef burgers, but do try to buy lean mince to reduce the fat content. The spices and apple compliment the lamb beautifully in these delicious burgers, which are popular with teenagers. Try as a tasty alternative at a Bar-b-q.
Ingredients:

450g/1lb lean lamb mince
1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 small eating apple, peeled and grated
5ml/1tsp ground cumin
15ml/1tbsp sweet chilli sauce
1 egg, medium, beaten
50g/2oz fresh wholemeal breadcrumbs
salt and freshly ground black pepper
15ml/1tbsp sunflower oil

Method:

  1. Place the lamb in a mixing bowl and add the onion, apple, cumin, chilli sauce, egg, breadcrumbs and seasoning.
  2. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Shape the mixture into 6-8 burgers.
  4. Brush both sides of the burgers with the oil and grill or barbeque for 5 to 7 minutes on each side, depending on how thick you make the burgers.
  5. Ensure they are completely cooked through.
  6. Serve in a burger bun with a side salad garnish and pasta salad.
