WI members encourage shoppers to “close the door”WI members are taking to the streets to encourage retailers and consumers to close the shop doors to stop unnecessary and significant energy loss. The NFWI has teamed up with the “Close the Door” campaign to encourage as many people as possible to think before keeping shop doors open and wasting valuable heat during the cold winter months.
Keeping shop doors open whilst paying to heat retail space greatly increases a shop’s environmental impact, while also squandering money by heating the street. This is backed by hard scientific evidence from Cambridge University. By asking the general public to encourage retailers to close their doors, WI members will be genuinely reducing their overall carbon footprints and helping retailers save money otherwise added to the price of goods during difficult economic times.
Ruth Bond, Chair of the NFWI, said:
“As seasoned climate change campaigners, WI members are always keen to prevent energy waste so asking shoppers and retailers to reduce their carbon footprints with one easy step seems a natural fit. One easy action that everyone can do will make such a difference, so we are encouraging everyone to ask retailers to shut their doors when heating their shops to help save them money, and help save the planet.”
