WI Cookery School launched to reach out to a new generation of cooks
The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) is launching its first WI Cookery School at 3pm on Monday 20 April at Denman College, its adult education centre near Oxford. The WI Cookery School will offer a range of courses and is open to everyone, including families and children or those wanting to learn or improve their cooking skills.
More than 1300 students are expected to attend courses at the new cookery school this year. Courses range from ‘Desperate Housewives’ and posh picnics to children’s lunch box ideas and even jam making. The ‘Desperate Housewives’ course explores ideas for taking everyday ingredients and transforming them into exquisite dishes with style and flair.
Fay Mansell, Chair of the NFWI said: “The WI has more than ninety years experience of cooking, baking and making jam. Our new cookery school allows us to pass on our knowledge and expertise to anyone interested in learning these skills.
“Our emphasis on traditional cooking but with a modern twist will appeal to all ages and help us reach out to a new generation of cooks. Learning to cook is a great way to eat fantastic food at home – a cheaper alternative to going out for a meal.”
The WI Cookery School is supported by Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, who have provided all the hobs and ovens from their Stoves brand.
Denman College offers a range of courses in a wide variety of areas and has seen interest in its cooking courses increase in recent years. The newly launched WI Cookery School will offer a wide range of day and residential courses including days for families.
