| We have 3600 members in 107 WIs situated in quiet rural villages, busy market towns and urban communities.
The WI is very much part of the community, offering women of all ages lively, interesting and stimulating opportunities. As you travel through our varied county you will see posters on village hall notice boards, community centres and schools advertising forthcoming WI events. Every WI is different, some having nearly 100 members and others much smaller but all share the common purpose of enhancing women’s lives. WIs meet on a monthly basis but many of them run craft class, a book club, a walking group and arrange outings to theatres and other places of interest.
All our WIs welcome visitors to their meetings. If your local one is not convenient for your time schedule, try the next nearest, as there is no requirement to live in any catchment area. Look at ‘Institutes’ to find the most suitable one for you.
CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE - JULY 2010
I am looking forward to a few days in the Scilly Isles at the end of September, an area of England I have never visited, as well as some time to be spent with the family in Cornwall in August. Whatever you are doing during these summer months I hope you all enjoy it and have some time for yourselves, to recharge the batteries for the rest of the year.
As a Federation, we have lots of great events planned for members, including an exciting collaboration with Warwick Words Literary Festival as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Cranford authoress, Mrs Gaskell. Gabrielle Drake will perform her one woman show ‘Dear Scheherazade’ at the Guy Nelson Hall on the evening of Friday 15th October 2010 an event open to members and their friends.
It is a pity that we were unable to continue to hold our annual meeting at the Royal Spa Centre Leamington but I am delighted to announce that we have now arranged the Annual Federation Meeting for March 23rd 2011 at the Showground at Stoneleigh Park. This will give us much more room, all on one level, and the extra bonus of free parking for the members, close to the complex. Further information will soon be with your secretaries, telling you about the new venue and our exciting main speaker.
I hope to see many of you at Federation events in the coming months,
Best Wishes
Jan Wade
Federation Chairman
