Welcome to the Wiltshire Federation

Welcome to Wiltshire where the West Country begins! Less than a hundred miles from London, the sea and the Midlands, Wiltshire offers the best of rural England.

The Wiltshire Federation came into existence in 1919; the same year as six of our WIs which are still flourishing. Our oldest WI dates back to 1917 and our two newest, areMarlborough formed in October 2009, and Devizes Lite formed in December.

From the Cathedral City of Salisbury, which boasts the tallest spire in England, to the home of Brunel's Great Western Railway in Swindon, to the five market towns in the west including the County Town of Trowbridge, there is a lot to see.

The pre-historic sites of Avebury and Stonehenge are popular tourist attractions. WI House is located in the centre of the county beside the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes. The house was built 23 years ago and paid for with money raised by WIs and individual members. We have over 4000 members in 125 WIs. Some WIs are in very rural areas while some are in towns. All will be very welcoming should you decide to visit. The federation puts on events for its members in music, drama, home economics and public affairs. We run inter WI leagues in whist, scrabble and skittles as well as trying out new leisure pursuits.

We are always open to suggestions from members for new events. Our Federation Secretary, Stephanie Pawling, welcome telephone enquiries or a visit during office hours.

We look forward to meeting you.
