| There is also Builth Wells, home of the Royal Welsh Show and Hay on Wye, the book capital of the world
Powys Brecknock Federation was formed in 1927 and we have 26 WIs, spread over the old county of Breconshire including the new "Celtic Chics" recently formed in Merthyr Tydfil, which although is within the Glamorgan area, is facilitated by our federation because of geographic problems.
The WIs range from small village branches with 14 members to larger ones with 40 members. The federation office at 11 Lion Street, Brecon, is open two days a week (Tuesday and Friday) where the kettle is always boiling for a warm welcome to all.
As well as a Board of Trustees, we have a variety of sub committees including Organisation, Arts and Leisure, Craft and Home Economics and Public Affairs.
We also produce County News, a bi-monthly publication which includes items submitted by our members. We also publish a monthly letter informing members of future events.
We may be a small federation, with just over 550 members, but I cannot think of another organisation in this area that has 26 branches.
I have been a member since the 1970's and joined my current WI in Talybont-on Usk 16 years ago. I lead a busy life in and out of the WI with my husband Roy, three grown up children and six lovely grandchildren. I became County Chair in May 2010 and enjoy my new role tremendously!
So if you are looking for a little bit extra in your life, contact us and see how we can enhance your future.
