Welcome to the Yorkshire - West Federation

Hello and welcome to the West Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes.

And a very warm welcome to the W.I. in West Yorkshire. We have 68 W.I.s ranging from urban to rural WIs. Although this part of the country is known for its mills we have some very beautiful areas which are well worth exploring. If you have moved into one of our small villages or into some of the urban areas there will be a WI near you.Chairman
The WI offers fun and friendship as well as opportunities  to try new skills whether it’s craft, leisure activities, e.g. gliding, grey hound racing or walking or taking part in campaigns, be that local or on a national scale.

The West Yorkshire Federation came into being almost thirty years ago when Yorkshire County was divided into 5 separate Federations making communication and friends much easier. The Federation stretches from the Keighley area on one side across to Wetherby, onto Pontefract to Upton, then across to Todmorden via Denby Dale, but wherever you live you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Each WI is different and each WI has its own identity but there will be a similar theme running through each meeting. A speaker, who may be serious or funny, a slide show or a hands-on event could be on the programme followed by time for a chat over a cuppa. Each WI will in some way be involved with their local community, for some areas the W.I. will be the mainstay of the local area. So there would be many opportunities to get involved. Within the Federation there are many events organised so that members can get together, make new friends or renew old acquaintances.

The Federation Office is situated in Rodley overlooking the canal, where members will be very welcomed and where many of the day-schools and training days are held. All events held in either the Federation or in the W.I.s are open to members and non-members. While other events are open to all family members and friends.
