Welcome to the Bedfordshire Federation

Chairman's Letter JULY 2010
I have been having a lovely time over these first few weeks as County Chairman. We have had good news at W I House. The insurance company will pay for all the repairs and the new carpet we need following the leak. Work will be completed as soon as possible and, hopefully, by the end of the summer the house will be ready for you all to visit. The garden is cleared and looks….big! I can remember a time when the garden was under control and, although I am no gardener, even I can see how lovely it could be.Bedfordshire Federation Chairman - Ann Lovell
The AGM in Cardiff was a super experience and I am sure everyone who went from Bedfordshire had a great time. Sylvia Eastwood did a grand job organising our travel and accommodation, not an easy task and I know at times she was a ‘little’ stressed! Thanks to her for a job well done and to everyone involved in booking the venue, speakers, etc which made it so enjoyable. I must say here that the thing which struck me over the two days was the way that presentation can be the making of something. It had never crossed my mind that I would feel the need for a carrot or a piece of broccoli. The meal we shared in the hotel, which was an excellent hotel, was the ‘beigest’ meal I have ever had. No vegetables or garnish on the plate so just chicken, mashed potato and mushroom sauce! By contrast the choir at the conference, Only Men Aloud, were colourful, full of joy and fun, so smart in suits and ties and an absolute joy. The smiles helped too and I am sure that everyone present left the meeting with their spirits lifted and a smile on their face. I wonder if we could afford them for a Federation meeting in the future! I would like to say if you ever have the opportunity of attending an AGM please take it. It is a wonderful experience and being with so many other members makes one aware of the real size of our organisation. With so many wanting to be a part of it we can be sure we are an organisation to be reckoned with and, potentially, we could move mountains!

I am so pleased that you seem to like the new look W Eye. Sue Keen and Barbara Davies are working hard to make it attractive and informative and are doing so successfully. I will try to be prepared next month so they don’t have to chase me for this piece!

  Yours in friendship
