Resolutions and mandates

This year's AGM will debate a resolution calling for the mandatory clear labelling of food with its true country of origin.

It emerged as the overwhelming favourite in the shortlist put to WI members and the NFWI board ruled it should be the only resolution taken to the AGM. For the first time every WI member was able to vote individually for the resolution of their choice from this year's shortlist, and food labelling proved a pressing issue across all Federations.

WIs are now encouraged to debate the resolution so they can make an informed vote at the AGM.

Resolution: This meeting urges HM Government to introduce clear and mandatory country of origin labelling on all meat, poultry and fish products sold in this country.

Every year WI members put forward resolutions for discussion at the AGM in June. If passed, these then become mandates and form the basis of campaigning activities in the years ahead.Members at the 2005 AGM
Before the final resolutions is put to the AGM, it has been through a year long debating and consultation process, and been selected from up to 100 other proposals. This process ensures that our campaigns have been through a democratic process involving all members and come from the grass-roots of the organisation.
