New WIs

Our WI Advisers are always ready to help form WIs in 'new' areas. A number of WIs have formed in London and as there is no London Federation they come under the umbrella of their nearest county.  A meeting was held in February 2010 for the London WIs to get to know more about one another as they are nearer to each other than they are to our HQ. This was a successful evening and we are setting up a "group" system as we have in the rest of the County for local WIs to get together occasionally and make friends in their area.

The V & A WI

Did you ever think that one of the new workplace WIs would be set up at the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington? Well, on 15 February 2010 this is exactly what happened. The idea for the WI came from Sue Prichard who was curator of the very successful Quilt Exhibition that took place earlier this year until 4 July.  They will meet on the first Tuesday of each month and we wish them every success and no doubt they will be the foremost amongst our members who appreciate the craft aspect of WI.

Kings College WI

An extra special WI has been formed by four students Laura, Nikki, Victoria and Holly currently studying at King's College, London. The WI is one of the activities on offer as part of the student union. Meeting on the lst and 3rd Tuesdays of the month during the academic term will enable them to achieve the 11 meeting per year that WIs have to offer members. They have a website and yellow T-shirts with the logo.

Here they are getting together in one of our most unusual venues.

And here is one of their demonstrations - make up this time but next time jewellery making.

WOW WI - Women of Woodham

This new WI now already has 49 paid up members. A fantastic start for them. This is their first meeting with a trans-Atlantic rower telling everyone how he did it, and their second meeting is planned with Edwina Currie as their speaker. Well done to them and their new President, Hilary Thornhill.

Worcester Parkers WI

Newly launched in May this year it may be obvious from the name that this WI is based in Worcester Park. They will be meeting at Christchurch with St. Philip Church Hall on the third Monday of each month. Here they are all ready to go with a wonderful spread of food to enjoy later in the evening.

Chiddingfold Evening WI

And still they keep coming! Another new WI has opened at the Winterton Arms function room in Chiddingfold, a more comfortable venue than that originally planned in a local school.   This being a rather smaller place than Worcester Park there are 19 members so far but they hope to increase to 30. The meetings will take place on the 4th Wednesday of the month. As a member who wears jeans most of the time for comfort, it is nice to see many of our new members are joining the trend.
