Arts & Crafts Committee

This committee arranges meetings, demonstrations, competitions and classes in the county for members, covering as many aspects of arts and crafts as possible, with special classes for beginners.

If members are interested in classes for a particular craft, either at WI House or in local halls, the committee will always try to arrange this, bearing in mind that the number of students must cover the cost of the class.

The committee also encourages members to maintain and improve the high standard of art and craftwork in the county and to work for craft certificates.  These can be taken in a wide range of crafts. There are no classes to attend:  members work in their own time and as assessments take place twice a year, there is no pressure to get work done by certain dates. The Crafts Certificate Organiser is always available to give help and advice and also to give talks to WIs for travel expenses only.

CRAFT CLUBS
To encourage children of all ages to learn to knit and crochet and then progress onto other crafts.

In conjunction with the Crafts Council and UKHKA (United Kingdom Handknitting Association), who already run craft clubs in schools,  it is hoped to train 150 WI Craft Champions to help in this exciting project.

These Champions (2 or 3 from each federation) will cascade their training to other WI members. If you are interested in being involved in this project, please contact WI House.
