Mr John Vautier Who went to Mongolia with a group of people representing Jersey Overseas Aid. He spoke about his trip there with animation. The team went to build a school there. This was such an informative talk that WI members were engrosed. It is a country of great extremes. The capital city is Ulaan Bataar and the largest desert the Gobi is found in Mongolia which accounts for the extremes in temperature -40degreesC in the Winter and up to+30degrees C in the Summer.People speak English and learn it at School, the religion is mainly Buddhism. Football I am happy to say is not a National Sport unlike everywhere else. The people love horseracing and wrestling, On the whole they are a happy race of people.
Second talk by Mrs Joan Cadoret was about China. After her talk we had a Chinese Supper of prawn crackers and spring rolls and a delicious drink of tea, the National drink of WI and China. The Evening was brought to an end by a Chinese dragon dance. and a line up of pretty maidens |
