Your secretary has (or soon will have) full details of all these events, but if you can't contact her, please ring WI House between 10am & 3pm Monday-Thursday to get the necessary information. However, do remember the office staff cannot make bookings over the phone and you must contact your secretary to place your ticket order through your WI.  

23 March 2010 - TASTY BITES AND BLOSSOMS
By the third week in March, winter will be well on its way out and  we shall all be anticipating the arrival of spring, so this event is an excellent excuse to start celebrating the end of the dismal winter months.   The day will start at 10am with coffee/tea and biscuits available, and at 10.30am Sarah Rivett of "Rutland Gourmet" will demonstrate some delicious canapés and Tasty Bites. We’ll then sit down for a tasty and wholesome Home Economics 2-course lunch. 

In the afternoon, NAFAS demonstrator, Nick Grounds of Wisbech, will be giving us his delightful flower demonstration called "Flotsam and Jetsam", before we finish off the day with the usual raffle.

This is another of our perennially popular events, so make sure you order your tickets in good time – we hate having to turn members away!

24 March 2010 -   Walk organised at Newbold Verdon starting at the Methodist Chapel. Lunch available on return but must be booked by Saturday 20th by contacting Mrs Freeman (tel. no. on page 5 of February County News)

27 March 2010 - MAKE A CORSAGE
Have fun making flowers to wear, in different mediums.  No experience is necessary.  Materials will be provided, but a basic sewing kit would be useful.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, but please remember to bring your packed lunch.

10 April 2010 - TABLE TOP SALE at the ROTHLEY CENTRE Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley  From 10am to 1pm.  Tables available at £10 each.A good way for WI’s to raise funds (without having to organise the venue etc). Individual members also welcome to book a table.
Please apply to WI House in writing with your cheque payable to LRFWI. 

A REQUEST TO ALL WIs:  Do you have a new or nearly new HANDBAG which is surplus to requirements – you changed your mind, after you purchased it or for some other reason?  If every WI in the Federation sent us a minimum of 1 handbag we would have a wonderful stall for County Federation funds.  Please bring/send your contribution to WI House, or to the ACM on March 13th or any other County event before March 22nd.

16 April 2010 - LADY MAYORESS'S SPRING FAIR
Town Hall, 11am to 1.30pm.  £1 entrance, to include Tea/Coffee and cake.  Various stalls.  All proceeds to the Lord Mayor's Appeal 2009/10 - Leicester Children's Holiday Centre (Mablethorpe).

17 April 2010 - SPRING LUNCH
The third of this popular luncheon will be held as usual at Hinckley Golf Club.  The menu comprises:  Baked Asparagus and Ham Puff OR Mushrooms filled with Stilton;   Poached Salmon with Tomato and Basil sauce OR Roast Lamb OR Vegetarian alternative;  Mini Dessert and Cheese Platter;  Coffee and Mints.  Special dietary requirements accommodated.

The after lunch speaker is Mr Graham Sutherland with a talk entitled: "Have Bell, Will Travel".

19 April 2010 - RESOLUTIONS CONFERENCE
This year's Conference will provide details of the Resolutions to be taken to the AGM in June.  Expert speakers will brief members on the topics, and the session is designed for those WIs wishing to take their own Resolutions Meetings in May.

21 April 2010 - RESOLUTIONS BRIEFING MEETING
This session is designed for those unable to atend the Resolutions Conference (on 19 April, but who wish to be well informed prior to their Resolutions Meeting in May.  Briefed WI Speakers will discuss the Resolutions which will be taken to the AGM in June. 

23 April 2010 - BAND CONCERT
After an absence of two years, a Concert to celebrate St George's Day, featuring the ever popular Hathern Band.  Come along and join us for an evening of stirring music!

28 April 2010 - MUSIC TASTER EVENING with Barry Collett   
For all our music loving members and friends - another evening has been arranged with Barry Collett to listen to and enjoy the music of Rimsky Korsakov.  Barry will be treating us to an insight into the life and times and music of this wonderful composer.    Tickets £6 includes tea/coffee/biscuits.

28 April 2010 - Walk organised by Hallaton and District WI.  Meet at 10.00 am at the Village Hall for coffee, walk to start at 10.15.  Light lunch available on return; to book ring Anthea Kenyon (tel no.on page 5 of February County News) by Saturday 24th April.

29 April 2010 - SPEAKERS' PANEL AUDITION EVENING
Come join us for our Speakers' Panel Audition Evening, this perennially popular event!  We wil, as usual, be inviting prospective new speakers to give us a taste of their talk/ demonstration, and would like to invite you to come to make up our audience to vet the speakers then to complete a short questionnaire at the end of the evening.  Why not bring along another member of your WI who you feel would enjoy seeing how we select the speakers for our Federation Year Book Speakers' List?

11 May 2010 - MAYTIME MORSELS
A Taste-and-Try event put on by Home Economics committee, this time hosted by Hollycroft WI.  If you've never been along to one of these evenings, then why not give it a try.  However, they are always popular, so make sure you get your ticket order placed as soon as possible (numbers are limited) and remember that entry is by ticket only. 

15 May 2010 - CRAFT DABBLE DAY
Fancy sampling a new craft or gaining some more experience at one you have already tried?  Then come along to Peatling Parva Village Hall where you will be able to have a go at crafts, such as  Cross Stitch and Crochet, with our experienced tutors to guide you.  Please note that beginners are always welcome.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, but please remember to bring your packed lunch.

An opportunity to organise a family-orientated event within your WI.  If you do, make sure you send in a report to County News and our Webmaster, together with photographs, so we can let other members and the World Wide Web know what you've been up to!

8 June 2010 - FLORA, FAUNA & FANCIES
The Home Economics Team would be delighted if you could join them to spend a lovely summer’s afternoon in Maxine's beautiful garden in Uppingham, in Rutland.   For a couple of hours, INDulge(!) yourself with homemade cakes and other treats, enter competitions, wander round the garden, drink cups of tea, coffee, etc., and just enjoy the company of and conversation with fellow members – make new friends, AND FINALLY......

....PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING A GARDEN CHAIR!!

17 June 2010 - WATERCOLOUR FLOWER PAINTING DAY
Wendy Williams, the tutor, informs us all ...""come and learn about painting flowers, colour mixing and simple brush techniques whilst producing a personal interpretation of the subject using watercolour paints.  Please bring with you the source material to aid your painting - for example a single specimen, a bunch of flowers, a potted plant or, if you feel happier working from printed images, a photo, sketch or picture from a magazine.  I shall also bring some demonstration subjects with me which you may use".

A comprehensive list of requirements needed for the day, given to us by Wendy will be sent out with the tickets.  Please contact WI House if you would like a copy beforehand.


7 August 2010 - A SOMERSET JAUNT
Remember those balmy days of childhood, when the sun always shone brightly in the summer and you thought you would burst with sheer excitement as the family set off for the seaside?  Well book yourself on this day out with the County and give yourself a chance to relive those magical times.  Take a nostalgic steam train ride across the glorious countryside of West Somerset towards the delightful old seaside town of Minhead where the train pulls up right across the road from the beach!  You can saunter along the old front, sit on the beach, paddle, get some tea and generally enjoy yourselves, before the coach picks us up to bring us back to Leicester.  Oh, and don't forget your bucket and spade.....!

There are 3 (three) single bedrooms remaining
There are 2 (two) spaces on the Dance to 60's Music course
There are 4 (four) spaces on the Watercolour Landscapes course
There are a few seats still available on the coach
