 FEBRUARY 2012

Hello everyone, here we are again at the beginning of another year of the WI in Nottinghamshire Federation, but this year celebrating our Ninety Fifth Anniversary. An achievement well worth celebrating, and we will be sharing this eventful year with the Diamond Jubilee of one of our members, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and of course the 2012 Olympic Games. We have quite a number of events planned during the year to mark all of these great occasions. Have you any celebration events planned?

The first most important date for everyone is the Annual Council Meeting which will take place on Thursday 22 March at the Royal Centre in Nottingham. If you have never been before please try and join us for this annual gathering. We have 4,000 members in our Federation and the Concert Hall will hold over half of that number. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to fill the theatre. We have the honour this year of welcoming Ruth Bond, our National Chairman, who will be addressing us at the morning session. One of the most difficult tasks when planning these meetings is finding a special guest speaker, someone who will appeal to our members, and most important within our budget!  We think we got it right last year! I hope that you will give the same support to Rosemary Shrager, the well known chef and television cookery presenter. I look forward to seeing you all there.

2012 has also been designated as WI Archive Year. This gives us all an opportunity to look through our WI records, memorabilia etc, put them into some sort of order and keep them in a safe place. All your Archives are part of the social history, not only of the WI but of your community. With this in mind we have arranged an Archive Day on 22 May at Oxton Village Hall, when Anne Stamper, who is the WI National Archivist will be giving advice and helpful hints on how to achieve this – remember coming up in 2015 is the 100th Anniversary of the WI.

 Very kind regards Maureen
