As you may have seen in June's GFWI Newsletter, NFWI has recently issued guidelines about First Aid provision at all WI events, including our monthly meetings. There was also a recent campaign in the press by St. John Ambulance with some rather disturbing scenarios showing what may happen if there is no one with even basic and emergency training about when an accident happens.
It is some time since GFWI has organised First Aid courses so even if you have had some training, it may be out of date and you would benefit from a refresher course. Jan Turner, our GFWI H&S rep, has looked into the courses organised by both the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance. Like the Food Hygiene Courses offered by GFWI, there is usually a cost- maybe your WI could help with this? The recommended class size is 10- 12 students, so it is very "hands on". All Basic and Emergency Courses are ONE- or TWO- day courses. There is no half-day course,as suggested on the return slip which your secretary has. Once these slips start coming in (and it is hoped every institute will send in a reply) Jan can begin to organise a course, somewhere near you, for you.
