WI presence at the National Eisteddfod of Wales
The WI stand at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Ebbw Vale was hosted by Gwent Federation of WIs and based on the theme Change Your World with the WI.

The stand depicted ‘old and new’ through photography and other mediums and highlighted how women can change their world with the WI.  On display was a Welsh ‘cariad’ quilt made by the members of Gwent Federation. 

The stand also illustrated some of the current campaigns of the WI namely SOS for Honey Bees, Violence Against Women and Food Labelling.

Royal Welsh Show 2010
Based on the theme ‘Wealth of Wool’ the WI display, designed by Ceredigion Federation, depicted the versatility and wealth of wool.  The display illustrated that wool is a product for the future with a wonderful range of uses from clothing and bedding to carpet and insulation – in fact from cradle to grave.

During the four days, visitors to the stand also had an opportunity to cast their vote on topical issues ranging from wind farms and locally-produced food to food labelling and climate change.

The theme of the Rose Bowl and Brecon Cup competitions was ’Victoriana’. Congratulations to Sir Gâr/Carmarthenshire Federation who won the Rose Bowl (produce and craft) and to Ceredigion Federation for winning the Brecon Cup (floral art).

2011 events
Wales Conference: 20 April 2011
The conference will be held at the Selwyn Samuel Centre in Llanelli. The eve of conference entertainment will take place in Theatr Elli, Llanelli on 19 April.
NFWI-Wales 2011 Interfederation Sports Day: 17 September 2011
The Sports Festival will take place in Newtown, Powys from 10.30am – 4.30pm.  Competitions will include bowls, badminton, table tennis, swimming, ten-pin bowling, darts, whist, scrabble and dominoes.  Further information is available from Federation offices.
2010 Events
Wales Annual Conference –25 March 2010
700 members attended our 2010 conference in Christ College, Brecon on the theme Leisure for Pleasure.  Hosted by Powys Brecknock Federation, conference speakers included NFWI Chair Ruth Bond, author Catrin Collier, BBC broadcaster Melanie Doel and consultant, Women’s National Commission Commissioner Adele Baumgardt and performer Lorraine King.

2009 Events
Royal Welsh Show 2009
Hosted by Glamorgan Federation, our stand included an attractive black and white exhibit - Streets Ahead with the WI - portraying the wide range of opportunities available for members.

During the four days, visitors to the stand also had an opportunity to cast their vote on topical issues ranging from charging for plastic carrier bags to the National Assembly and its law-making powers.

The theme of the Rose Bowl and Brecon Cup competitions was ’Fire and Ice’. Congratulations to Gwynedd Caernarfon Federation who won Rose Bowl (produce and craft) and to Powys Montgomery Federation for winning the Brecon Cup (floral art).

National Eisteddfod of Wales 2009, Meirion and District
We had a presence on the Eisteddfod maes and welcomed many members and other visitors to our stand. Hosted by Gwynedd Meirionnydd Federation, the exhibit included a wall hanging depicting all aspects of rural life in Meirionnydd and its language, culture and identity will form the backdrop of the exhibit.  The stand also portrayed the wide range of opportunities offered by the WI to women.

To encourage higher standards of exhibit at the Eisteddfod, every year we sponsor a competition for the best and runner-up stand from the voluntary sector. Congratulations to Mantell Gwynedd for winning this year’s competition and to Gwynedd Family History Society who was awarded the runner-up prize.

Assembly Reception

We held a Reception in the National Assembly for Wales on 10 June 2009 to update Assembly Members on the current campaigns of NFWI and to give AMs a chance to meet with the Federation Chairs involved in their constituency or region.  The event was hosted by Nerys Evans AM.
Public Affairs Conference
The public affairs conference in Newtown on 23 June was well attended by 120 delegates from across Wales. Key campaigns focused on during the day included Climate Change and No More Violence Against Women. Also, Ruth Bond spoke about the resolutions process and we heard from Shan Aston about the work of the All Wales Convention. Wally Shaw from the Welsh Beekeepers Association addressed members on the decline of bees and the threat to the ecosystem. Members took part in a range of workshops during the day.

2009 Annual Conference, Venue Cymru, Llandudno: 1/2 April
Our 700 members attended the Wales Conference hosted by Gwynedd Caernarfon Federation. The conference theme was “Mines and Mountains” and speakers included world-renowned operatic tenor Rhys Meirion, archaeologist David Chapman of Ancient Arts, team members from Search and Rescue Dogs Association-Wales and NFWI Chair Fay Mansell.

Each year at the Wales Conference, NFWI-Wales presents an award to the two WIs who have achieved the greatest increase in membership.

The 2008 Recruitment Award for WIs with under 30 members was presented to Drefach Velindre WI, Sir Gâr/Carmarthenshire for increasing its membership from 6 - 14 members, an increase of 133%. The award was accepted by Jill Price, Federation Chair, Sir Gâr/Carmarthenshire Federation of WIs.

The Award for WIs with 30 members and over was awarded to Sully WI, Glamorgan Federation. The WI increased its membership from 47 - 58 members, an increase of 23.4%. WI Vice-President Margaret Powell accepted the award.

2007 Events
Federations of Wales Inter-Federation Eisteddfod: 6 October 2007
Three hundred members from across Wales attended the Eisteddfod at the Arts Centre, University of Wales Aberystwyth.  Federations and individual members entered a range of competitions from humorous recitation, open duet and impromptu speaking to line dancing, choirs, written competitions, arts and crafts and photography.
