The NFWI/Makower 'Bright and Beautiful' challenge

This competition is now closed.
WI members were invited to design and make a quilt or wallhanging, to be worked in patchwork, quilting of applique, made by hand or machine and consisting of three layers (individual entries only). Any embellishment were permissible. Entries had to contain a minimum of 50% of the Makower 'Butterflies' fabric range (on the face of the work). Other Makower fabrics could be used but did not count as part of the 50%

PRIZES

1st place - Husqvarna Viking sewing machine.
2nd place - Two night residential course of your choice at Denman College
3rd place - Two years' subscription to Fabrications - Quilting for You magazine plus binders and a bundle of books

All 3 winners also received a three-metre Makower fabric bundle. The winner of the 2009/10 Makower Challenge competition was Ann Vitty, North Yorkshire East Federation. The winning entries can be downloaded from the top right hand corner of the screen.

ENTRY DETAILS

Entry forms had to be completed and returned by 11 December 2009. Finished quilts/wallhangings were also required to arrive at the NFWI Unit between 19 and 23 April 2010.

Judging took place during May 2010 and the winner was announced at the 2010 AGM at the Cardiff International Arena.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entries had to be completed since June 2009 and not previously exhibited in a patchwork competition or national exhibition in the UK.
  • Only individual entries would be accepted.
