LADY DENMAN CUP 2008 COMPETITION

WI members and WI Associates are invited to write a short story based on the theme ‘Ghosts’.  Stories must be no more than 500 words and must end with the line ‘…so beware, you may never know who is present at your WI meeting!’

Entries may be in English or Welsh.  Entries must be original and written by the entrant, members may not enter a piece of work that has already been published or entered into other competitions. Only one entry per member will be accepted.  The winner of the 2007 Lady Denman Cup is not eligible to enter.

Prizes
Book tokens will be given as prizes: 1st prize, book tokens to the value of £75; 2nd prize book tokens to the value of £50 and 3rd prize book tokens to the value of £30.  The Lady Denman Cup will be presented to the winner/winning Federation at the NFWI Annual General Meeting 2009.

‘To write a humorous sketch …’

WI members and WI Associates were invited to write a humorous sketch with at least one reference to the WI, lasting no more than 10 minutes and using between two and six characters.

Jacqueline Tevlin, Denman College Tutor and Menna Elfyn, Writing Director at Trinity College, Carmarthen, judged the entries in October 2007. There were 132 entries received from 62 Federations.

The results were as follows:-.

  • First - Christine Woolf Cornwall
  • Second - Nicola Moxham Nottinghamshire
  • Third - Marlene Sinnett Devon
  • Highly - Commended Julie Higgins Suffolk West
  • Commended - Irene Liversedge Cumbria-Westmorland

Congratulations to all. The Lady Denman Cup will be presented to the winner at the NFWI AGM in 2008.

Book tokens were given as prizes:  1st Prize £75, 2nd Prize £50, 3rd Prize £30, and the Lady Denman Cup will be presented to the winning Federation, Cornwall, at the 2008 AGM in London.
