Wl members purchased our headquarters 33 years ago on 14 February 1975. This was regarded as an auspicious date as it marked the beginning of a long love affair between Nottinghamshire Wl members and Trent Bridge House. We are very proud of our Georgian Grade II listed home, which we work hard to maintain.
The County Federation of Nottinghamshire was established in late 1917 with 10 WIs and about 500 members and now there are 124 WIs and 3900 members. Our oldest WIs are Southwell and East Bridgford, which were formed in 1917 and are still thriving. We welcome two new WIs in October at Misson & Springs WI and Willow Tree WI at Gamston.
We have only one major city, Nottingham, situated in the south of county with most of the population located around it. There are some WIs on the fringes of Nottingham, in the market towns of Bingham, Newark, Worksop, Mansfield, Southwell and Retford.
Most of the WIs however are located in the large number of villages, farming and former colliery villages throughout the county. The character of these communities is as diverse as the membership of our WIs.
If you are visiting the area or have recently moved into Nottinghamshire, please contact us here at Trent Bridge House, or call in for a cup of tea during office hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10am-3pm or Friday between 10am and 12.30pm.
Our staff: Wanda Adams, Federation Secretary, and Fiona and Heather, are always pleased to welcome visitors to our house situated alongside the River Trent and next to the ruins of historic Newark Castle. We will be delighted to see you.
