GRAND GARDENING COMPETITION

Joint winners of the garden competition were Houghton Conquest WI and Angela Brown from Flitton & Greenfield WI and they both received a cheque for £25.00 at the Federation Meeting.  Thank you to everyone who entered this competition; we hope to start work clearing the garden very soon in readiness for planting in the spring.

Celebration raffle

As you are no doubt aware, next year we will be celebrating our 90th birthday and there will be many special events held throughout the year.  We are holding a celebration raffle with a double quilt, £100 and £50 prizes and the tickets will cost 50p each.   The quilt, which has been made by Barbara Davies, is approximately 90” square and can be used on a king-sized bed as well as a double; it is a scrap quilt with no predominant colour so it should suit any room.  We hope many of you will us support this raffle and buy tickets as the proceeds will be used to improve the office at WI House and make it a more congenial working environment for Dawn and Barbara.  Tickets available at WI House or from your Secretary.

CRAFTS THROUGH THE AGES

The Home Economics Sub Committee is staging an exhibition of crafts at WI House on March 19 and they are looking for items to be included.  Have you any craft items that you have made either recently or in years gone by that you would be willing to lend?

PLEASE LET US KNOW AT WI HOUSE IF YOU CAN HELP

The exhibition will be free to members and we hope that many of you will come to see the display.

EVES TROPHY 2009

IN VIEW OF OUR BIG BIRTHDAY NEXT YEAR, the Eves Trophy will celebrate crafts which have been popular over the past ninety years.  It will include jam making, crocket, patchwork, embroidery, a boiled cake and a birthday card so whatever your interests there should be a category you may like to enter.  The schedules will be sent out with the November mailing and you will have plenty of time to prepare your entries for an exhibition next summer.

MURDER MYSTERY

WESTONING PLAYERS

Once again the Murder Mystery evenings were a great success.  After much hard work by the actors from Westoning Players the clues were laid and the resulting plays were enjoyed immensely by all.  The winners were the Northill and Ickwell Sleuths on Wednesday, Dianne Matthews from Ampthill on Thursday, Jackie Allen from Luton on Friday and Michael Hiles from Westoning on Saturday.  The WI caterers produced a delicious meal on each of the four nights and we are grateful to everyone who worked so hard - yet again, the Murder Mysteries were a Great success.
